REMEMBERING THE LAST AFRICAN GIANT President Kaunda of Zambia mourned, lauded as a champion for the Motherland

Kenneth Kaunda, the former president of Zambia and the last giant of Africa’s frontline leaders in turbulent struggles against colonialism and foreign domination of the continent, has died. He led the southern African nation to independence and governed from 1964 until October 1991. He was 97-years-old.

It has been said that the contribution and life’s meaning of consequential figures can best be judged and determined after a period is put to their existence. This is especially true with the passing of Dr. Kaunda on June 17. His nearly 100 years of life and many decades of service spoke volumes to those who are now assessing his work.

On behalf of the Nation of Islam, his family and himself, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan sent condolences and deep sympathy to the people of Zambia, Africa and the Black world on the passing of a giant, a peacemaker, Kenneth Kaunda.

“Allah says, He will never waste the work of a worker, male or female,” said Minister Farrakhan of Dr. Kaunda.

“Brother President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda was one of these rare individuals who lived their lives in service of others, hoping to see the world better on his leaving it. Better than it was on his coming to birth,” said Minister Farrakhan, reflecting on the statesman.

The Muslim minister described Dr. Kaunda as a principled leader not snared by vain motives that often rule those in authority who act for “personal gain” and vain considerations of their legacy.

Without doubt Dr. Kaunda, never seen without his signature white handkerchief clutched between his fingers like an Italian fazzoletto, was distinctly African. He was famous for being uncompromisingly strong for the plight of Africans and suffering people across the earth and was found many times in the crosshairs of Western powers. He was a freedom fighter who helped transform White-ruled Northern Rhodesia, a bastard child of British imperialism, into Zambia, an independent African nation.

Minster Farrakhan expressed high regard for the late leader he was “honored in life to meet” and interact with on several occasions in Africa. Dr. Kaunda was also an advisor and counselor with the Muslim leader on at least two peace missions concerning crises in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On the recommendation of the late President Jerry John Rawlings of Ghana, Minister Farrakhan met with Dr. Kaunda when asked to help resolve the conflict in the Congo. Dr. Kaunda was an adviser and counsel to Minister Farrakhan on the Sudan issue.

Dr. Kaunda was one of a number of leaders Minister Farrakhan interacted with on challenges that faced African nations.

The endeavors bore witness to the respect Dr. Kaunda was given as an elder statesman who leaders on the troubled continent looked to in the years after he left office.

These historic efforts, however, were sabotaged by the United States government that did not like the idea that African leaders opened the door for Minister Farrakhan to have input in their peace processes.

During these missions, Minister Farrakhan and his international representative, Abdul Akbar Muhammad, met with Presidents Rawlings in Ghana, Abdoulaye Wade in Senegal, Daniel Arap Moi in Kenya, Sam Nujoma of Namibia and Alpha Konare of Mali and ex-president—at the time—Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua who was on the continent meeting with Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi.

Dr. Kaunda offered words of guidance before a meeting in Uganda with President Yoweri Museveni and talks with southern Sudan opposition leader John Garang and then President Omar Bashir of Sudan in Khartoum. America’s foreign policy and the question of unequal resource distribution within Sudan was at the root of a civil war that Minister Farrakhan and Dr. Kaunda were aiming to end. Although a deal was struck for a meeting between Mr. Bashir and Mr. Garang to establish peace, America interfered in the effort.

Dr. Kaunda’s death was announced by Zambian President Edgar Changa Lugu who called the legendary statesmen a “true father” who inspired the nation.

“You stood as a pillar for our nation, a true champion for humanity, and a fountain of wisdom for thousands across the continent of Africa and beyond,” said President Lugu.

“We as a nation embraced you as our father, heaven has embraced you as a son,” he said, lauding Dr. Kaunda as a true freedom fighter who selflessly fought for the oppressed.

President Lugu declared 21 days of national mourning and implored Zambians to uphold the legacy of peace, love, and unity that Dr. Kaunda fostered.

During the mourning period the Zambian government announced Dr. Kaunda’s remains will travel to all provinces in a farewell procession from June 23 to July 5. Citizens will be allowed to view his body in each state capital as he lies in state. An official state funeral will be held July 2 at the Heroes Stadium in Lusaka where international dignitaries will pay their respects followed by a private family burial on July 7.

Dr. Kaunda died at Maina Soko military hospital in Lusaka of pneumonia. His administrative assistant Rodrick Ngolo informed media outlets of the diagnosis, dispelling circulating rumors claiming “KK,” as he is known by Zambians, succumbed to Covid-19.

He is being remembered as a towering figure whose strength, tenacity of will and sacrifice benefitted the entire African continent.

“He embodied the true sense of Pan-Africanism, placing his own country Zambia at grave risk in order to provide safe harbor for the liberation movements of Southern Africa as well as its peoples,” said Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairperson of the African Union Commission in a statement.

“The African Union stands in solidarity with the Kaunda family, the people and the Government of the Republic of Zambia as we mourn and honor the life of a freedom fighter, statesman, visionary and liberation struggle icon,” he said.

President Kaunda was a founder of the Organization of African Unity that eventually became the African Union.

Comrade, servant, soldier for resistance

In the last century, Dr. Kaunda and other leaders led and supported years of African resistance against White minority rule, colonialism, neo-colonialism, imperialism, and outside control of the resource rich continent.

Dr. Kaunda is now etched in the pantheon of his African contemporaries and continental compatriots. He joins the list of greats like Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana, Ahmed Sekou Toure of Guinea, Gamal Abdel Nasser of Egypt, Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, Ahmad Ben Bella of Algeria, Muammar Gadhafi of Libya, Samora Machel of Mozambique, Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, and South Africa’s Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo, and Walter Sisulu, to name a few.

Dr. Kaunda believed in African solidarity and practiced words from scriptures that he often quoted: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you and love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

He was chairman of The Frontline States, an alliance of African countries from the 1960s to 1990s committed to ending apartheid and White rule. He rallied global support and pushed for economic divestment from the repressive, White-ruled countries.

He allowed Zambia to be an operational base for guerilla movements from Azania, or South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Angola, and provided exiles political protection and armed resistance training.

“Under KK’s leadership, Lusaka … became the capitol of African resistance,” explained Dr. Gerald Horne, professor of history and Africana Studies at the University of Houston.

Such African unity angered Europe and their settler colonialists in Africa.

“Zambia suffered as a result. They were repeatedly bombed by apartheid South Africa … repeatedly bombed by similarly racist Rhodesia—now Zimbabwe,” said Dr. Horne. “KK stood tall during that time; refused to bend, refused to yield.”

“Certainly, he will surely be missed,” added Dr. Horne.

Beneficiaries of Dr. Kaunda’s generosity reflected on his contribution and support.

“This hero stood against the might of the racist South African government and protected us in our struggle at every step,” said Lindiwe Sisulu, South African minister of human settlements, water, and sanitation. Her father, the late anti-apartheid fighter Walter Sisulu, was jailed along with Nelson Mandela and members of her family were exiled in Zambia.

“Today we are a free country because people like him understood the historic mission we had,” tweeted Ms. Sisulu.

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki who spent many years exiled in Zambia and grew close to the late statesman called Dr. Kaunda “one of the architects of a democratic South Africa.”

Mr. Mbeki told SABC News that Dr. Kaunda carried the total liberation of Africa close to his heart. “It was part of his agenda; it was not a by-the-way thing, which he can attend to tomorrow,” said Mr. Mbeki.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa declared 10 days of national mourning with flags half-mast. The debt of gratitude to Dr. Kaunda can never be adequately repaid, he said. “He stood alongside the people of South Africa at the time of our greatest need … unwavering in his desire for the achievement of our freedom,” said President Ramaphosa.

Similar decrees and tributes poured in for the late president from leaders across Africa and the world.

After Zambia achieved her independence in southern Africa, Dr. Kaunda actively helped his neighboring nations acquire independence.

Along with South Africa, periods of mourning and national flags lowered to half-mast were decreed in Botswana, Namibia, and Tanzania, with each declaring seven days of official mourning, and Zimbabwe announced a three-day period of mourning.

President Hage Geingob of Namibia observed, in a statement, that Africa lost “a giant of a man.”

“Kenneth Kaunda was a generous, affable, and a resolute leader who freed our region from colonialism,” said President Geingob.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame tweeted Dr. Kaunda’s “commitment to Africa’s liberation will never be forgotten.” “His leadership on the continent and legacy of Pan-Africanism will live on for generations to come,” he said.

For others Dr. Kaunda’s passing marked the end of an era of “true African Revolutionaries” and “visionaries” who chose to stand for oppressed people and whose work must be completed.

“The last giant has fallen,” said Dr. Arkana Chihombori-Quao, former African Union ambassador to the United States. She told The Final Call, President Kaunda was the last living “Pan African father” responsible for the historic 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity that developed into the African Union as part of a vision for a Unified Africa.

“It’s sad that his passing, as the last Pan African father, is before we can attain a true United States of Africa, a true creation with an Africa that speaks with one voice,” said Amb. Chihombori-Quao. We have a responsibility to continue and create the unity of purpose for a United States of Africa, she said.

A life in the struggle

Kenneth David Kaunda was born in the Zambian town of Chinsali, then part of Northern Rhodesia, on April 28, 1924. He was the youngest of eight children, and like his parents became a teacher in colonial Zambia and Tanzania. His father was also a Presbyterian pastor. In the latter 1940s, he became involved in politics through the Northern Rhodesian African Congress. He rose through the ranks of the group becoming its secretary general, which by 1953 became the African National Congress (ANC)—unrelated to South Africa’s African National Congress.

Dr. Kaunda pushed for resistance against the White minority rulers and was arrested and imprisoned in 1955. By 1957, under the auspices of the Labor Party, he traveled to Britain to study parliamentary systems. Upon his return and disenchantment with the too moderate stance of ANC leadership, he formed the Zambian African National Congress in 1958, which the colonial government banned. In December 1958, he participated in the first All African People’s Conference in Accra, Ghana, convened by President Nkrumah where he met many of the leaders of Africa’s independence struggles.

After another politically related prison term, in 1960 he was elected president of the newly formed United National Independence Party. As a revolutionary championing Black self-determination and freedom, he fought “White Afrikaners” and “Boers”—White minority leaders in southern Africa. His was a call to break the yoke of colonialism and foreign domination. He stirred Zambians as well as Blacks in the Diaspora from the beginning.

“FreeDOM Africa,” cried Dr. Kaunda, to a Harlem, N.Y. crowd in 1960. “Now! Now! Now!” the audience screamed back. “Free-Dom Af-ri-ca!” he yelled more rapidly, reaping a more frenzied response: “Now! Now! Now!” reported a New York Times article.

At the time, Zambia was still a White European settler state which he was determined to change. In January 1964 after a successful electoral campaign, he became prime minister of Northern Rhodesia. By October 1964, amid anticolonial pressure campaigns organized by Dr. Kaunda and other nationalist leaders, Britain caved in to demands for an independent Zambia.

Dr. Kaunda served as president under a one-party system until 1991, when the tides of Africa’s political waters shifted, sparking calls for multiparty elections in Zambia.

Being defeated at the ballot, he stepped down to hand power to longtime political foe Fredrick Chiluba.

Despite accusations of wrongdoing leveled at his party, he respected and bowed to the will of the people and led an orderly transition of power and urged peace.

“Those who go into opposition are still an active catalyst for good government, indeed an integral part of good government,” he told Zambians in a national broadcast after the vote.

In 1996, Dr. Kaunda tried to make a political comeback, but was prevented when President Chiluba amended the constitution to declare the former “Father of the Nation” a foreigner, based on his parent’s lineage in Malawi.

Dr. Kaunda was arrested in December 1997 and charged with treason following a coup attempt by junior army officers two months earlier. He was held in a maximum-security prison but later placed under house arrest until the government dropped the charges.

Although not always an easy political situation for him in Zambia, he remained actively engaged in promoting the interests of Africa. He was a respected voice on the continent, from mediating in conflicts to his anti-AIDS campaigns.

He formed the Kenneth Kaunda Peace Foundation dedicated to conflict resolution and eradicating poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa. Dr. Kaunda used his stature in the battle against AIDS. At the height of the pandemic, during a 1987 televised news conference he disclosed his fifth son, Masuzgo, perished from the illness.

President Kaunda, the Nation of Islam and Africa

The transition of Dr. Kaunda and his relationship with Minister Farrakhan offers an important look into Nation of Islam involvement and influence in Africa. Both men were called on by African leaders as experienced voices of guidance.

Abdul Akbar Muhammad is an emissary and advisor to Minister Farrakhan on Africa. He told The Final Call NOI engagement in the Motherland extends back generations.

“It’s what we call the wise men of Africa. It was a term Muammar Gadhafi used. These were the men and women who shaped movements in Africa,” explained Min. Akbar Muhammad.

Since the days of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and Muhammad Speaks Newspaper of the 1960s and 1970s featuring stories on events and happenings in Africa, the Nation was connected to the continent and informed Black America.

“Muhammad Ali made an impact on Africa, that encouraged readers to learn more about Africa, ” observed Min. Akbar Muhammad. “As history would shape it, Malcolm’s movement around Africa,” he continued, “It wasn’t just Malcolm. It was Malcolm as a former representative of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad that had an impact.”

Min. Akbar Muhammad said it is important to note when Minister Farrakhan was appointed in New York as the Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s representative, it exposed the Nation of Islam to many African ambassadors at the United Nations.

Minister Farrakhan made his first trip to Africa in the 1970s on an invitation to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad by Uganda’s President Idi Amin and visited several nations.

However, a major instance of the Nation of Islam on the world stage was when Minister Farrakhan addressed the World Mathaba conference in the 1980s in Libya where he spoke to representatives of 86 nations. “His notoriety spread across Africa like wildfire and the rest is history. So, we had an impact on Africa … where the young people and leaders began to hear and know the name Louis Farrakhan,” said Mr. Muhammad.

But historically, it was the Million Man March that propelled Minister Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam globally. The image of over one million Black men, the call for atonement, reconciliation and responsibility resonated with leaders across the continent struggling with geopolitical problems.

The Million Man March served as a catalyst to open Africa’s doors to Min. Farrakhan. “Brother leader Gadhafi assisted in this, and it was President Rawlings who connected Minister Farrakhan with Dr. Kaunda as the Minister was called on as a peacemaker,” explained Min. Akbar Muhammad.

“Kenneth Kaunda will always be remembered as a voice of reason in the midst of chaos and confusion,” said Minister Farrakhan.

Undergirding Mr. Kaunda’s public life was a family life anchored by his wife Betty Kaunda who he married in 1946 and their eight children. The former first lady passed away in 2012.

Beside the people and government of Zambia and freedom loving people worldwide, Dr. Kaunda is survived by six children, many grand and great grandchildren.

A MAN OF GOOD WORKS: The life and faith of Father Pfleger
By Anisah Muhammad, Contributing Writer
- June 15, 2021

Pastor. Preacher. Parent. Lecturer. Activist. “Errand boy.”

Those are the words listed in the biography of Rev. Dr. Michael Louis Pfleger, affectionately known as “Father Mike,” the senior pastor of Saint Sabina Church in Chicago. Father Pfleger has been serving the Black and oppressed communities of Chicago for at least 53 years, advocating against violence and police brutality. So, when sex abuse allegations arose, many in the Black community had no problem standing up for him.

After two brothers from Texas accused Father Pfleger of allegedly abusing them over four decades ago, the Archdiocese in Chicago asked the longtime activist and pastor to step down from the ministry. That was in January. After a four-month long battle, Father Pfleger has now been reinstated, the allegations said to be unfounded. St. Sabina Church held an official reinstatement celebration on June 6 in conjunction with the Feast of Corpus Christ, which is a Roman Catholic festival in honor of Jesus Christ.

Who is this man, who despite opposition, is eager to “get back to work” and “kick the devil’s butt,” remarked Father Pfleger during a May 24 news conference?

He was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago in a White, middle-class community. In an interview with The Final Call, Father Pfleger detailed how his ministry and activism came about from a combination of childhood and young adult experiences. He grew up with an older sister who was mentally challenged.

He would watch her as people laughed at her and called her “retarded,” and it would fill him with anger. Then in his first year of high school, he spent two weeks at a Native American reservation in Wilburton, Okla. He went to get ice cream with a few of the young people, but a man told him Indians weren’t allowed.

“I had never experienced anything like that in my life. And so, I remember calling my mother that night and saying, ‘I want to move down here, because they have a lot of problems down here,’ and my mother laughed on the phone and she said, ‘Welcome to America,’” Father Pfleger recalled.

In his junior year of high school, he kept hearing about a “horrible” person named Martin Luther King, who was marching for open, fair and equal housing in Chicago. He heard people cursing Dr. King out and calling him names. One day, he and his friends walked with their three bikes into Marquette Park where Dr. King was speaking that day.

“I saw all this hate. People with all this racist chanting and throwing bottles and rocks, turning over cars and it was just, I never saw anything like that,” Father Pfleger said. “I realized I recognized some of the people who lived in my neighborhood, went to my church. There were family members of some of my classmates, and I’m seeing that, and I never saw this side of people.”

Despite the chaos around him, Dr. King simply walked through the park. “It was the greatest witness of non-violence I ever saw,” Father Pfleger described. “I remember riding back that day and saying, there’s something about this guy. Either he’s crazy, or he has some kind of power about him.”

Dr. King became an inspiration to Father Pfleger. Illinois state Senator Jacqueline Collins, who has been a member of St. Sabina for over 35 years, told The Final Call that the pastor was influenced by Dr. King’s words: “Any religion that professes to be concerned with the souls of men and is not concerned with the slums that damn them, the economic conditions that strangle them, and the social conditions that cripple them is a dry-as-dust religion.”

Father Pfleger became the pastor of St. Sabina in 1975, and in the 80s, he protested South Africa’s apartheid system, launched an anti-drug paraphernalia campaign and launched a “save our children” campaign.

“He’s a peace advocate. Back in 1991, he took an anti-war stance, protesting when President George H.W. Bush instituted the Gulf War,” Sen. Collins said. She said for the last 10 or more years, Father Pfleger has been combating youth violence and gun violence.

When Sen. Collins first walked into St. Sabina Church over 35 years ago, she was very impressed with its decor.

“Father Mike has made it a point, when he became pastor, to celebrate the cultural richness of the African American tradition and to speak to the cultural and spiritual needs of the Black faithful,” she said. “So, he had the decor. You have the African motif in the church. If you’ve ever been in St. Sabina, you’ll see the kente colors, fabrics. The altar is shaped like the African drum. The woodwork and the motif really celebrates and announces that we are proud to be a prophetic church with a strong Black tradition of witness and worship.”

Under the leadership of Father Pfleger, St. Sabina now has several outreach programs: an education academy, an elder’s village, an employment resource center, a youth program called the Ark, a violence intervention program and learning gardens.

In Dec. 2019, the academy’s principal reported an enrollment of 221 students. According to the school’s website, 81 percent of St. Sabina alumni from the academy enroll in college immediately after high school. Colleges range from HBCU’s to Ivy Leagues. The elder’s village, which opened its doors in Sept. 2000, has 80 one-bedroom units for senior citizens. The program ‘Ark’ represents 634 students from 91 schools across the city of Chicago. A 2018 survey of Ark participants revealed that over 50 percent of 12–18-year old’s improved their grades as a result of the program.

Father Pfleger has formed many friendships within the Black community, including one with the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam. He said he couldn’t recall when exactly he first met the Minister, but through Claudette Marie Muhammad, former national protocol director and another Muslim sister who was close to the Minister, he was invited to a dinner at the Palace, the Minister’s home, with a group of other pastors.

“I was just overwhelmed. I sat there very quietly. I was the only White person at the table, and kind of overwhelmed with the kindness and the wisdom of the Minister. And so, somewhere towards the end of the conversation at the table, I put my hand up and I said, ‘Minister, I would love to have you come speak at St. Sabina,’” Father Pfleger recalled. “And he chuckled. He says father, we’ll speak afterwards.”

Once the dinner was over, Min. Farrakhan told Father Pfleger he appreciated the invitation but to check with the church leadership. “He gave me his number and gave me a Qur’an, and I still have that Qur’an sitting in my room, when he wrote a note into it,” he said.

The Minister was able to speak at St. Sabina in 1988, and from there, the relationship between the two men of faith grew. In May 2019, after the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan was banned from Facebook. Father Pfleger invited him to speak at St. Sabina Church.

The Minister has described Father Pfleger as his brother, friend, “a true servant of Jesus the Christ” and “one of the finest men that I’ve had the privilege of meeting since I’ve been here in Chicago.” Father Pfleger attended the historic 1995 Million Man March and subsequent mass gatherings held by the Minister and the Nation of Islam including 10.10.15 commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 1995 march. Father Pfleger has attended the Nation’s annual Saviours’ Day conventions over the years and Min. Farrakhan has spoken several times at St. Sabina.

Father Pfleger described Minister Farrakhan as a very loving, gentle man, and yet bold and courageous. “As a result of that, I think anybody, any pastor or preacher today that seeks to be prophetic is a target, and the status quo will turn on you. They can’t fight the message, so they fight the messenger. So they try to destroy the messenger of Louis Farrakhan, to keep people from hearing the message, because if they hear the message, they’ll say, ‘Wow, that’s true. Oh, that’s something. I need to check this out. I need to go further.’”

Wallace “Gator” Bradley, president and urban translator of United in Peace Inc., has stood with Father Pfleger during many protests against senseless shootings and killings. An ex-offender and formerly an “enforcer” of the street gang Gangster Disciples, Mr. Bradley said Father Pfleger stood with him in his efforts to get pardoned. “He’s a man of conviction. And what I love about him, he stood firm with the leader, Minister Farrakhan. That’s his brother, and he let it be known to the world,” Mr. Bradley said.

James G. Muhammad, former editor of The Final Call, described Father Pfleger’s congregation as ‘spirited’ and his leaderships style ‘progressive.’ He mentioned how the pastor has an open door to the Nation of Islam and vice versa. In talking about the relationship between the two faith leaders, Minister Farrakhan and Father Pfleger, he said they both see themselves as true servants, and he lifted the scripture that there is no division in Christ.

Pfleger leads marchers

“They put aside labels. They don’t hold a label up before the needs of the people and what needs to be done,” Mr. Muhammad said.

He described Father Pfleger’s approach as one where he’s out in the community instead of just sitting in his seat giving directions. “He’s out in the streets stopping the violence, just as our brothers, as FOI and MGT (men and women of the Nation of Islam), we’re out in the streets embracing the downtrodden and picking them up, and that’s his approach as well,” he said. “That’s his legacy.”

Father Pfleger called America a “country that hates truth.” As someone that people have called a truth-teller, he has had his own challenges. He was suspended from the ministry twice: once for calling out Hillary Clinton as “entitled” when she ran against Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, and another time when his words on Dr. Cornel West’s radio show were taken out of context.

Left to right Sister Claudette Marie Muhammad, Father Michael Pfleger and Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun.

“I’ve had this kind of rugged relationship for a long time in the Catholic Church. I remember one of the headlines of the paper was said by a bishop here in Chicago, ‘Maybe Father Pfleger shouldn’t be a Catholic priest.’ I said, you wake up and see your boss telling you maybe you shouldn’t be a Catholic priest, it’s not the most affirming thing in the world to wake up to,” he said.

He said, there were always things in the Catholic Church that he disagreed with. “I think that’s our job as pastors or imams or rabbis to be faithful to the Qur’an, to the Torah or to the Bible. So, I’ve tried to always be there, and it’s created a lot of tension in the Catholic Church,” he explained. “People always joke about the fact that the Catholic Church has wanted to get rid of me forever.”

When the recent sex abuse allegations arose, he was given two hours to tell his staff and to find a place to live. “I was numb. I was in shock,” he expressed. He remembers sitting in his one-bedroom apartment the first night and not being able to sleep.

“I’m, number one, a people person. Secondly, I work 12-13 hours a day, every day. It’s my life. And then you’re separated from your work, you’re separated from your people, your home. And it’s very isolating and very painful,” he described.

He thanks God for the people who loved him, cared for him and checked up on him. There was a moment when he felt sorry for himself for feeling unjustly treated and abandoned, but he said he then thought about the mother who is at the morgue identifying her child who was shot and killed last night; the child afraid to go to school; the mother or father struggling to feed their children; the people in jail who were falsely accused and don’t have a church family, friends or lawyers on their side.

“I would just have to slap myself and say, ‘you know what Pfleger? You’re blessed. Don’t feel sorry for yourself.’ Yes, this is hard. Yes, this is difficult. Yes it’s unfair, but when you put things in perspective, you’re blessed,” he expressed. He said some of the wounds are still raw, but he’s giving his energy to the work ahead.

“I want to raise up a church family that understands that they must be an invading force in this society, at their workplace, at the marketplace, in their schools, in their homes, on the block, with their family and with strangers. An invading force in a world that I think is so in love with evil right now, and so divided and so selfish, that we must be an invading force of God’s goodness, of God’s justice and God’s presence and power and God’s love,” he said.

Tio Hardiman, president of Violence Interrupters Inc., described Father Pfleger as a messianic leader. Mr. Hardiman listed some of Father Pfleger’s work, including bringing resources to Chicago’s Auburn Gresham community, establishing senior citizen homes, feeding the community, organizing peace concerts and peace basketball tournaments, and sending young men and women to school.

Carolyn Johnson, a Chicago activist, a struggling mother and a survivor, described Father Pfleger as a good man who personally helped her. Father Pfleger is someone God sent, and she questioned why every time Black people have someone to stand for them, evil forces work to destroy the person.

“Father Pfleger is the truth and the light, and I honor God and I thank God for sending that man to help us and help our children and help our babies. Bullets are steady flying, kids are steady dying, and us mothers, we’re steady crying for our loved ones and for us to live a normal, natural truthful life,” Ms. Johnson said.

“I think that’s what Father Pfleger does for me and the people that I’ve been around. I’m tired of the lies. I’m so tired of the lies, and every time we find someone that steps up for us, they try to get rid of them.”

Sen. Collins said she believes Father Pfleger came out of the fire stronger. She attributed him as the reason she ran for office, and she said his ministry reflects his compassion, courage, integrity, and character.

“I think this crisis has made him come out on fire even more determined and confident of his destiny and his calling. So, whatever other misgivings he had about, was the priesthood the place for him, was it the right calling for him, I think now more than anything else, it’s a manifestation and a definite affirmation that he is in the place where God has placed him to do the work that he’s been called to do in his priesthood, in his ministry,” she said.

“So I expect greater things. Higher levels of activism and advocacy. I think his voice will become more energized.”

A CALL TO ACTION: Demand That The U.S. Government Halt The Use Of The COVID-19 Vaccines

By Ava Muhammad, Student National Spokesperson of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan
- June 8, 2021

It has been eleven (11) months since the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, in his Message, The Criterion (July 4, 2020), issued the divine warning to Black and indigenous people in America, Africa and all over the globe to stay away from any COVID-19 vaccine that comes on the market. Remember, when he spoke the vaccines were still in development.

Yet he spoke with conviction and certainty because the Warning was not from him, it was through him from Allah (God). Before six months passed, the deployment of three vaccines started in the United States. Two of them are not even vaccines, they are gene therapy; the result of biotechnology. Now the whole world knows there is a direct causal connection between these products and the deaths of over 5,000 people, along with 200,000 adverse events (injuries) in this country alone.

These numbers, reported to U.S. Health and Human Services and updated each Friday, are astonishing, yet HHS estimates that less than 1% of the total number of adverse events are ever reported through its system (VAERS). Even more shocking is that these numbers are being dismissed as inconsequential or coincidental.

Let’s put things in their proper perspective. The government takes the position that nearly 5,000 deaths and thousands of injuries are meaningless, because close to 300 million Americans have received a first dose. That is like saying that the 3,000 dead after 9/11/2001 was nothing because there are over 300 million Americans. These are what we call “senseless deaths.”

Who would tell the families of 2,312 U.S. military personnel who died in Afghanistan since 2001 (a period of 20 years) that this is a small number? The nearly 5,000 vaccine deaths have occurred in less than 6 months and are climbing. In addition, they are people who were simply living their lives until they were coerced and cajoled by the government into subjecting themselves to fatal injury.

The 1976 swine flu pandemic mass vaccination campaign was abruptly cancelled after 53 deaths. In less than 6 months the COVID vaccines have killed more people than all available vaccines combined over a 15-year period (1997-2013).

Among the multitude of wicked deceptive practices taking place is the pretense that everyone’s risk for contracting and/or being hospitalized or dying from COVID is the same when nothing could be further from the truth. More than 98% of the population are either sufficiently young (under 50), healthy and/or “COVID Recovered” (According to the Centers for Disease Control nearly 35 million Americans have had it and gotten over it).

Children are virtually untouched. It is sinful that despite the harm being done to human beings, the government continues to heavily promote the uptake of these vaccines. They are using celebrities, professional athletes, preachers, politicians, educators and everyday people to pressure us to “just get the shot.”

It is time for all of us to become more proactive in fighting this diabolical scheme. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan has relentlessly stood up for Truth and for us for over 65 years. Can we just get behind him for once and for our own sake?

These vaccines are being resisted by millions of people from every race, class and religion. We can defeat the Synagogue of Satan with the Help of Allah (God). You can take part in the campaign against the U.S. government’s depraved indifference toward the lives of the people who live here.

On May 16, Attorney Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Meryl Nass, MD (Scientific Advisory Board), filed a Citizen Petition on behalf of Children’s Health Defense, calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to withdraw COVID-19 vaccines from the market. The 19-page cover letter and petition, which can be found on childrenshealthdefense.org (click on box that says “Children’s Health Defense Demands Immediate Suspension of Plans to Give COVID Vaccines to Children”) and calls upon the agency to take a number of actions, including but not limited to the following:

Revoke the Emergency Use Authorizations (EUAs) for the COVID vaccines.

Refrain from licensing the COVID vaccines.

Prohibit the participation of minors in the COVID vaccine trials and immediately revoke all EUAs permitting vaccination of minors.

Immediately amend its existing guidance for the use of Ivermectin, chloroquine drugs and any other safe and effective drugs against COVID.

All of the COVID vaccines currently being administered were rushed, under a government program known as Operation Warp Speed, through the Emergency Use Authorization process while health and medical professionals around the word have been citing and using viable treatment options that are inexpensive and readily available. EUA status was originally intended for situations where there is a lethal disease for which effective treatment options cannot be found.

The petition references Dr. Peter McCullough’s testimony to the Texas Senate on March 10, 2021, that an 85% lower mortality rate from COVID would have been possible if government agencies had publicly recommended early treatment. Dr. McCullough is an internist, cardiologist, epidemiologist and Professor of Medicine at Texas A&M College of Medicine in Dallas. He has been the world’s most prominent and vocal advocate for early outpatient treatment of COVID-19 in order to prevent hospitalization and death.

The petition continues, “Now that COVID cases and deaths are decreasing because many if not most Americans are immune, the relative benefit of COVID vaccines has diminished.” “FDA was aware at least 13 months ago that Americans were using Ivermectin to treat and prevent COVID.

How could FDA not have reviewed data on Ivermectin during an entire year after it was informed about this use? Furthermore, Ivermectin has been used OTC (over the counter) for COVID in many countries and regions with excellent reported treatment success.

The drug’s safety has been established with at least a billion doses used and the drug is on the World Health Organization’s list of essential drugs (There were) many clinical trials of both drugs (Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine) for COVID prevention. Yet, FDA has remained silent about these benefits, even though the efficacy of these preventative treatments probably supersedes that of COVID vaccines.”

The petition also includes the following:

Pending revocation of the COVID vaccines’ EUAs, the FDA should issue guidance that all marketing and promotion of the vaccines MUST REFRAIN from labeling them “safe and effective” (emphasis added), as such statements violate federal law.

Major media outlets have been used to saturate the airwaves with misbranding the vaccines. Not only are they repeatedly called “safe and effective” in commercials and news programs, they are characterized as “approved” when neither is true. The FDA’s precise technical language in their communications to the manufacturers does not match the unequivocal “safe and effective” claims on official government websites.

The petition also addresses the illegal and unethical coercion and compulsion surrounding the administration of the vaccines. First of all, because they are EAU products, they are optional according to federal law. “Yet throughout the United States, schools, businesses, government and industry are using coercive tactics to encourage, incentivize and compel COVID vaccination as a condition of employment, education and daily living.

It is unlikely that most Americans would support such coercion if they were fully informed that COVID vaccines are for emergency use only, investigational, unapproved and that individuals have the explicit right to refuse by law.”

The FDA is just an administrative agency in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It does not make law. However, its action and inaction concerning COVID-19 is having a global impact on health policy. It is imperative that we use every avenue available to fight this assault on us. We have to stop these mandates before they gain anymore traction, especially the ones targeting the children.

They have already started vaccinating 12-15 year olds and are conducting trials for young children. They will not stop until they can administer COVID the first day of life. In fact, this is the only experimental vaccine known to be administered to pregnant women.

In order for this legal action to be successful, the petitioners need as many people as possible to make comments on the petition. People from anywhere in the world are able to speak directly to the U.S Government by commenting on the petition. It can be read in Spanish, French, Italian and German, as well as English. Your comment on this petition is vital in the fight to prevent further injuries and deaths from these experimental medical products. Let your voice be heard.

“So, Mr. Dershowitz, if you bring the vaccine and say you’re going to bring your army to force us to take it, once you try to force us, that’s a declaration of war on all of us. You only have this one life. Fight like hell to keep it and fight like hell to destroy those whose heart and mind is to destroy you and take your life from you…So, don’t take the vaccines. There are 14 therapies that are in the world today that we can use to fight against the Covid virus. America, you won’t solve it. The scientists of the world, you won’t solve it. I want to tell you what will solve it. You ready? This virus Is a pestilence from heaven so scholarship from hell can’t deal with pestilence that came from heaven.”

Vindicated!: Gov’t officials admit UFOs are real; ex-military members fear national security threat. These new gov’t admissions bear witness to the reality of The Mother Plane taught by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.

By Anisah Muhammad, Contributing Writer
- June 1, 2021

For decades, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, patriarch of the Nation of Islam taught on The Mother Plane and the prophesized “Battle in the Sky.” “The vision of Ezekiel’s wheel in a wheel in the sky is true if carefully understood,” Mr. Muhammad wrote in his seminal book, “Message to the Blackman.” This Mother Plane or Wheel is a half-mile by half-mile in size and contains 1,500 smaller “wheels” each carrying three bombs, teaches Mr. Muhammad. “There is no known equal of the Mother Plane. The Mother Plane is made for the purpose of destroying the present world. She has no equal,” He wrote in one of his other important books, “The Fall of America.”

“She,” Mr. Muhammad continued, referring to this Great Wheel, “is capable of staying away from you who plan the destruction of her. She is capable of confusing you who would try to reach her with your means of destruction.” Mr. Muhammad was mocked and ridiculed for teaching about The Wheel. However, He continues to be vindicated as scientists of this world and more recently, the U.S. government are bearing witness that these wheels are real.

“Imagine a technology that can fly at 13,000 miles per hour, that can evade radar, that can fly through air, water and possibly space, that has no sign of propulsion, no wings, no control surfaces and yet can still defy the natural effects of earth’s gravity.”

That was former U.S. senior intelligence officer Luis Elizondo’s description of what Navy pilots and military personnel have been seeing.

His words were shared during an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker about his experience with unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), popularly known as UFOs. Mr. Whitaker also interviewed former Navy pilot Lt. Ryan Graves, former Navy pilot Cmdr. David Fravor, former Navy Lt. Cmdr. Alex Dietrich, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Christopher Mellon and Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). The segment aired May 16.

The topic of UFOs has caused a frenzy, opening a door the U.S. government has kept shut and hidden for almost 80 years. In the Whitaker interview, Mr. Elizondo said: “The government has already stated for the record that they’re real. I’m not telling you that, the United States government is telling you that.”

Mr. Luis Elizondo, who spent 20 years running military intelligence operations, was asked to join the Pentagon’s “advanced aerospace threat identification program” or AATIP. The mission was to collect and analyze information involving so-called UFO’s, which the military calls UAPs. It may sound “wacky,” he admitted. But it was part of a $22 million program sponsored by then Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, to investigate UFOs. Mr. Elizondo, who took over in 2010, focused on national security implications of unidentified aerial phenomenon documented by U.S. service members. He and others were frustrated by higher ups stonewalling. Mr. Elizondo eventually quit, but not before getting three videos of the crafts declassified. Those videos were eventually leaked to the New York Times and made public.

Since that leak, multiple Navy pilots and other military personnel came forward sharing their accounts of encounters. U.S. intelligence agencies are now preparing to deliver a report on unidentified aerial phenomena to Congress in June.

According to former pilots in the “60 Minutes” episode, the objects are real, should not be ignored and could be dangerous. One pilot speculated the objects could be secret U.S. technology, or Russian or Chinese spy craft. But, say others, crafts with such advanced technology making intrusions into U.S. and visiting sensitive locations are a national security threat and are beyond current military capability.

Screenshots from released video of unidentified aerial phenomena.

Lt. Graves said pilots training off the Atlantic coast have been seeing “things like that” every day for at least a couple of years now. Whatever it is, it’s a security risk, he said. He added that the crafts were seen over restricted air space southeast of Virgina Beach in 2018, when their jets radar and infrared cameras were updated. According to “60 Minutes,” the Pentagon said objects found in 2019 photos from U.S. aircrafts could not be identified. Cmdr. Fravor said when he and his team encountered one of the flying objects in Nov. 2004, it turned abruptly and started mirroring his flight patterns, then got right in front of him and disappeared. Seconds later, it was spotted 60 miles away. That video has been released and was shown on “60 Minutes” along with images of these crafts from military sources. “When you have exhausted all those what ifs and you’re still left with the fact that this is in our air space and it’s real? That’s when it becomes compelling and that’s when it becomes problematic,” said Mr. Elizondo.

“There have been countless sightings all over the world, millions of sightings with many thousands and thousands of them reported and studied,” political activist and Disclosure advocate Stephen Bassett told The Final Call. He said there are military witnesses, radar sightings and photographs.

“Over the last 70 years, hundreds if not thousands of just citizens, I call them the citizen science researchers, journalists and so forth, they have been studying these phenomena. They have been researching it. They have been talking to witnesses. They have been obtaining documents. And so they’ve been compiling decades of research about the phenomena,” he said.

Mr. Bassett, executive director of the Paradigm Research Group, said soon, the American people will see military witnesses testifying about the evidence before Congress.

Screenshot of Luis Elizondo from “60 Minutes” interview.

“Why are the initial witnesses to these amazing hearings going to be almost certainly, almost all military? Because they are the best witnesses. One, they take an oath of office. They take an oath when they sign up to serve. They’ll take another oath when they sit down in front of the congressional committee,” he said. “And more importantly, their career, their lives are very well known. We will know when they served, how they served, what service, and so forth. There’s a record of their life, whereas a civilian witness in many cases, you don’t have that.”

Nation of Islam Student Minister Ilia Rashad Muhammad, author of the book “UFOs And The Nation Of Islam: The Source, Proof, And Reality Of The Wheels,” told The Final Call more military personnel have been coming forward in the last 14 years. “All of them describe the same thing. They described disc-shaped objects interfering with military sites, destabilizing their most advanced nuclear sites, disarming their warheads. And what these wheels have been doing is going around monitoring all these different military and nuclear sites just to prove that there is a superior power on scene. They have literally disarmed remotely, disarmed and shut entire nuclear sites down,” he explained.

He pointed to the late Gordon Cooper, who was one of the most decorated NASA astronauts America has had. “He saw these wheels on two occasions. One time they actually had footage, and that footage of course was given to what he believes to be CIA intelligence that they had to give it to, and it was never seen again,” Student Minister Muhammad said.
Los Angeles Times newspaper article, “Battle of Los Angeles,” 1942.

The same thing happened with NASA’s Bob Jacob in 1964, he added. “They saw a wheel literally disarm a test missile warhead within a matter of seconds, and the film of course was confiscated by some superior they believe to be CIA and of course it was never seen again,” he said.

For Navy pilots and military personnel who have witnessed the crafts, the question isn’t whether the flying crafts exist or not. Their own experiences prove they exist, as well as sightings by millions in America alone. The question being asked by former Navy pilots and other military personnel is “what are the crafts and who is controlling them?”

Mr. Bassett explained that the U.S. government has known about the existence of the flying crafts since at least 1947, when the government recovered a crashed vehicle in Roswell, N.M. “The U.S. government made the decision as a national security policy to withhold this information, or to withhold the truth of this from the American people and the world for that matter,” he said.

He called the withholding of such information a “truth embargo.” It’s not necessarily a secret, because the crafts can go wherever they want, but that the purpose is to convince people to pretend they don’t exist, he said.

“The analogy I like to use is, it’s one thing to embargo Cuba and say, look, you can’t go there. People say, ‘Okay.’ It’s another thing to say, ‘There is no Cuba. Ain’t no Cuba. Why are you wanting to go to Cuba? There is no island down there, alright. Forget about it.’ That obviously would be ridiculous, wouldn’t it? People would say, ‘Well, that’s silly.’ But in fact, that’s exactly what the government did with this issue,” he said.

Now the U.S. government is trying to free itself from the truth embargo, argued Mr. Bassett. “It’s a public relations driven extrication campaign,” he said. “So what does that mean? Right now, the military intelligence complex, DOD (Department of Defense) and so forth and the political class are trying to extricate themselves out from under this truth embargo.”

Min. Muhammad said people are hearing about the existence of the flying crafts now because it is becoming impossible to hide. He said the U.S. government and military have been encountering the crafts since the early 1940s.

“The government first confirmed that these planes exist when they arrested the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and over 80 other members of the Nation of Islam in May of 1942. And the reason, part of the reason, that led to that arrest was the fact that the military encountered the Mother Wheel and a few of the Baby Planes just off the coast of Los Angeles a few months prior, on February 25, 1942,” he said.

The event is known as the “Battle of Los Angeles,” where unidentified objects were reported. The military fired more than 1,400 antiaircraft shells at the objects, but all of them missed. Military officials did not know the origin of the planes.

“It was after that encounter with The Wheel and seeing how otherworldly superior this craft was and how their 1,400 rounds of antiaircraft artillery could not do anything to this Wheel that was up in the sky. Because of that, it sent the nation in shock, and their investigations led to the only person and entity giving definitive details about what they encountered, and this is what led to the arrest of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and 80 plus other members of the Nation of Islam, where they interrogated him,” Min. Muhammad said. “They took the illustrations of The Wheel that was at the mosque. They took it and confiscated it from the mosque. They admitted to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad that they had encountered The Wheel. And as an attempt to hide the fact that this is a new, supreme power greater than the power of White America, they arrested the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and locked him up for almost five years to silence his voice, so that they could initiate what has become the worldwide UFO cover-up.”

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad started teaching about the crafts, which he termed The Wheel, or The Mother Plane, in 1932, ten years before they appeared in 1942. According to his top student, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan who has since spoken on the reality of the flying crafts, when the Hon. Elijah Muhammad was arrested and questioned by the FBI about the drawings of The Wheel, he explained to the U.S. government and to the FBI the aim and purpose of it, who made it and why it is above America.

Minister Farrakhan recalled that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad referred to The Wheel as a “masterpiece of mechanics and engineering” and “the greatest military weapon ever developed in the annals of the history of Allah (God) and man in this universe.” The Honorable Elijah Muhammad said the purpose of The Wheel was to destroy the present world of evil and that visions of it had been seen thousands of years before it came into being.

“All throughout the scripture, Torah, Gospel, even Qur’an, God is depicted as operating from a vessel that flies in the sky,” Min. Ilia Rashad Muhammad said. He explained that the belief of a human God operating a flying craft is supported by scripture.

“You read in the scriptures where God operates from something described as a cloud by day and looks like a star or pillar of fire by night. He operates from what are referred to as His heavenly chariots. His throne is situated upon some type of vessel. He is described in the book of Galatians and Revelations as operating from this place called the New Jerusalem, which is a heavenly city of God, also described as the mother of us all,” Min. Muhammad said.

“We get prophecies in the book of Ezekiel of God’s appearance operating on a wheel-shaped plane. We read about God and His Prophet. Like when God sent his chariot, this fiery chariot from heaven to come and rescue His servant, Elijah, and it takes Elijah away on a heavenly chariot,” he continued. Min. Muhammad also pointed out the Book of Acts, Chapter 1, where Jesus is leaving in a cloud, and the Book of Matthew, Chapter 24, where he is returning in like manner.

“We read in the Holy Qur’an where Allah, God, is established upon this Throne of Power. And this Throne of God is over the waters,” he said.

He concluded that the existence of the flying crafts is evidence of a supreme power that is far greater than any power, any military, any intelligence and any technological advancement that this world has ever known, which makes them of utmost importance to the governments and militaries of the world.

“It should be the most important thing that Black and oppressed populations should know, because Black and oppressed populations around the world have been subjugated under the power of White supremacy. And so no Black country, community or nation on this earth has the armament to honestly battle, that can compete with that of America and the White Western superpowers of the world and Israel. They don’t have that,” he said. “Black folks in America don’t have the arms to battle the governments and militaries. So, unless there is a power greater than that, Black folks could just give it up. And the fact is, there is a power greater than all of that, and that power has proven its superiority. And that power is with us if we only knew it. So that is what that means to us. That is the most important knowledge, the fact that God has come, just as He said He would.”

Min. Farrakhan warned during his Saviours’ Day 2020 message, “The Unraveling of a Great Nation” the purpose of The Wheel and how Master Fard Muhammad, Allah (God) in Person described it to the Hon. Elijah Muhammad. The Minister also described his personal connection to The Wheel.

“He pointed out an object in the sky, a half a mile by a half a mile, the greatest mechanical object ever made, having 1,500 little Wheels or bombing planes can take America out in 12 hours. I’m not representing no fantasy god. I’m not representing no spook god that’s hiding somewhere in the sky. I represent the Most High God who sits in that Wheel that Ezekiel saw, a Wheel in the middle of a Wheel, and I visited that Wheel. He brought me to that Wheel like Allah brought Muhammad in a night vision to the inner sanctum of Himself,” said Min. Farrakhan. The Minister was given a direct message from the Hon. Elijah Muhammad on The Wheel in 1985.

“He brought me there, yet I was here. He gave me a message. He told me that the President was planning a war and I want you to have a press conference and tell them his plans, and tell them that you got it from me, Elijah Muhammad, on The Wheel. I never failed to deliver that message. They hated me for it. They lied on me because of it. They made mockery. So, when I made the announcement, I told them that before you can make mockery of me, you’ll see the Wheels. And, it flew over the White House, flew over the Congress. I’m not a spook believer. I’m not no man that believes in fantasy. I know what I experienced and I’m not a liar. I put my life on what I say!”

Mr. Bassett said in coming weeks, people should watch for a number of things. One, he said, watch for a chairman of one of the congressional committees to announce that they are going to hold a hearing. Two, he said, watch for those in national security who come forward about the unidentified objects.

“These are things they weren’t saying 15-20 years ago, believe me. A number of them have come forward,” he said. “You can find the articles. Watch for more of that to happen, more people to come forward.”
